Knole House Trip

My year 12 class and I went on a trip to Kent on Friday, where we visited Knole House and got to learn a lot about different subjects, some of which included science and religious studies. We also got to learn a lot in terms of our Media class as well, as we do watch quite a lot of films relating to gender, sexuality etc. The entire tour of Knole House was based around a production on 'Orlando'. A man who change his sex after 30, but continued his journey with the same soul and personality from within. The entire day had a pattern to it, all referring to human biology and dominance. Almost all of the skits we saw were referring to the simple phrase that a man/father is the real parent, and a mother is just someone who carries a baby. There was a lot I learnt in terms of how the world viewed and still views the differences between men and women.

Through out the tour, the people who were acting in the production were dressed quite on point in regards to the era they were trying to recreate. All actors were amazing and it truly felt like we were watching a real film.

We also had a small workshop after the tour, where we talked about the production and learnt a lot of new things. We were taught the difference between nurture and nature too which I found quite interesting. We then also went on to watch a short documentary on Orlando's life and his journey on his transition.

The trip over all was very fascinating and Knole House itself was one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been to so I definitely enjoyed myself.
